It was the first losing season in eight years. Offensively the A’s only averaged 22.7 ppg and scored just 6 points against Mansfield. Max Esbenshade led the team in scoring with 112 points, and then followed Johnny Matthews (94 pts) and Robert Rybolt (93 pts). Rybolt had the best game of the year with 17-points against Oberlin, when the team scored a season high 43-points. At mid-season a gangly freshman named Earl Thomas earned a starting berth. He would become Ashland’s first All-Ohio player and Ashland’s first four-year letterman.
