New Coach A.L. Buckner had just an average season 5-5 in the NCO and fourth place, but it turned into a storybook year when the A’s swept the Sandusky District with four wins. The trip to Columbus was the 4th in ten years for Ashland. The Orange and Black lost to a taller Springfield Township. Ironically at the State, which was played in the Fair Grounds Coliseum in Columbus, Massillon, who conquered of our ’37 team, eliminated a Bryan team, which was coached by C. E. Taylor. Capt. Bob Howell and Pete Risser, the top scorer (166 pts), were first-team NCO. Dean Duffey (134 pts), Howell (123 pts), and Phil Stentz (108 pts) all broke the century mark for the season.
